Dr. Marcus Thomas
Founder
Marcus is a computational scientist working in the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. His work at the intersection of cancer immunology, machine learning and statistical physics aims to improve the computational pipelines used to construct personalized tumor vaccines for cancer patients enrolled in clinical trials at the hospital.
Marcus was motivated to think deeply about the incentive structures that exist in the health data ecosystem through direct experience with inter-institution data sharing conflicts and noticing their effects on the progress of science and on financial equity.
Dr. Tiphaine Martin
Scientific Consultant
Tiphaine has played pivotal roles in various initiatives within the bioinformatics community. She has served as the French representative to the European Grid and Cloud Initiative, working towards establishing a shared network of high-performance computing and storage for researchers across Europe. Additionally, she helped to establish the French national computing, cloud and storage network, and contributed to the white paper for high-performance computing for bioinformatics under Horizon Europe. At the Mount Sinai Health System, she has worked with the Data Structuring and Curation Aggregation (DSCA) project aimed at harmonizing electronic medical records. Her current research focus at Mount Sinai is on enhancing the identification and treatment of high-risk cancers in patients across different ancestries.
Luke Serafin
Software Consultant
Luke is a PhD candidate in mathematics, a software engineer, and an aspiring theoretical physicist. He has worked extensively with health data at Epic Systems and Sogeti, and also worked on flight management systems for airliners as an engineer at Honeywell. Luke understands software as based in mathematics and is excited to see how formal methods and other techniques can improve the quality and reliability of critical software in our lives, with particular urgency for the health sector in view of numerous data breaches and attacks that occur in relation to these sensitive and valuable data.
